According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, 11 to 20% of veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom have PTSD in a given year. 12% of Gulf war veterans have PTSD in a given year. Additionally, it is estimated that 30% of Vietnam veterans have had PTSD in their lifetime.
Another source of trauma in the military is sexual assault. 23 out of 100 women using VA services report having been sexually assaulted while serving in the military. 55 out of 100 women report sexual harassment while serving.
The VA also reports that over half of all veterans with Military Sexual Trauma are men.
